Migrating ng-table / smart-table to modern Angular
ng-table and smart-table added sorting, filtering and pagination to HTML tables through directives and a params object.
What replaces it
| Option | When to choose it |
|---|---|
| Angular Material table | Sorting, paging and sticky headers with little code. |
| CDK table | Same behavior without Material styles. |
| AG Grid | When the table has grown into a real data grid. |
How to migrate it
- Decide per table whether sorting and paging happen in the browser or on the server.
- Build one shared table component with the features you really use.
- Move each table when its screen is migrated; keep column definitions in the component, not in the template.
Watch out. Client-side filtering of thousands of rows was a common performance problem with these libraries. Moving it to the server during the migration often fixes the slowest screens.
