Migrating ui-grid (angular-ui-grid) to modern Angular
ui-grid was the standard AngularJS data grid: sorting, filtering, grouping, editing and export. It depends on AngularJS and has seen little development in recent years.
What replaces it
| Option | When to choose it |
|---|---|
| AG Grid | When you need the same power: grouping, pinning, virtual scroll, export, inline editing. |
| Angular Material table / CDK table | When the grid is really a table with sorting and paging. |
| TanStack Table | When you want full control over markup and styling. |
How to migrate it
- Inventory every grid and the features each one really uses: most need far less than ui-grid offered.
- Move filtering, sorting and paging to the server if the data set is large; it simplifies the replacement.
- Rebuild the busiest grid first as the reference implementation, then reuse it as a shared component.
Watch out. Grids are usually the highest-risk screens in a migration. Write end-to-end tests for sorting, filtering and export on the old grid before replacing it.
