Migrating AngularJS Material (angular-material 1.x) to modern Angular

AngularJS Material implemented Material Design for AngularJS. It reached end of life together with AngularJS and receives no fixes.

What replaces it

Option	When to choose it
Angular Material	The direct successor, maintained by the Angular team, with the CDK underneath.
PrimeNG	When you need a wider component catalog (advanced tables, charts, editors).
Angular CDK + your own styles	When you have a design system and only need behavior.

Map each md- component to its mat- equivalent; most have one, but names and APIs differ.
Replace the md layout attributes (layout, flex) with CSS flexbox or grid: Angular Material has no layout system.
Set up the new theme first so migrated screens match the legacy look closely enough.

Watch out. The layout attributes are the hidden cost here. They are everywhere in the templates and have no automatic replacement.
